NCAA Basketball Attendance Figures 2009-2010 Season
The attendance figures for the 2009-2010 NCAA basketball season were released revealing the University of Kentucky as the number one school for the average attendance. This comes as no surprise given that Kentucky was the home to many college superstars, including John Wall who is expected to be picked number on in this year’s upcoming NBA draft. Given that John Wall was so spectacular to watch and that Kentucky held the number one ranking in the both the ESPN and Associated Press National Polls, Kentucky naturally attracted the largest crowd of spectators no matter the venue.
On the whole, however, the attendance numbers for the 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Season have dipped compared to those figures of last season. There is no clear cut explanation for this reason, however these numbers are still among the highest ever recorded. There were over 27 million people who attended Division I basketball games last season which is the 4th highest total ever.
Compared to the average attendance of the previous season, the 2009-2010 season on averaged attracted, on average, 133 less fans per game. Although this is an appreciable decrease it is no cause for alarm. Many other factors including catastrophic weather in the form of snow storms along the mid-Atlantic caused numerous headaches for fans trying to attend the games.
The Big Ten conference was the first ranked conference regarding attendance this season. Partly attributed to the large arenas as well as the great teams that play in the conference, the 12,591 fans that attended the games on average were significantly more than other powerhouse conferences such as the Big East and the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Nonetheless, even though the 2009-2010 NCAA basketball season slightly dipped in average attendance numbers, it was still one of the most exciting ones in recent memory.
