Duke Blue Devils No. 1 in NCAA Basketball after first week
The first week of the 2010-11 NCAA College Basketball season is in the books, and the first poll of the regular season looks a lot like the preseason Top 25.
The defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils are still ranked No. 1, with 58 first-place votes
Duke picked up three more top-spot votes than it had in The AP’s preseason rankings after beating the Princeton Tigers by 37 points in their season-opener on Sunday.
The Michigan State Spartans, which received the other seven first-place votes, are No. 2 followed by the Kansas State Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Villanova was sixth with Kansas, North Carolina, Florida and Syracuse rounding out the top 10.
The same teams were in the poll, with eight schools switching places. The 25 teams were a combined 31-0 in the first week of play, with Missouri the only one without at least one win.
But there could be some movement in next week’s poll, as three games this week are between ranked teams.
Interestingly, all three matchups are on Tuesday: Ohio State at Florida, Virginia Tech at Kansas State and San Diego State at Gonzaga. All three of the games are regularly scheduled games, not tournament matchups in NCAA basketball lines.
