No. 18 Michigan State Spartans face No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers in Big Ten conference action

Tom Izzo brings his No. 18 Michigan State Spartans to the Mackey Arena to take on the No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers in a battle of top 25 ranked Big 10 schools. Michigan State has struggled this season as their five losses would indicate. This will be the Spartans second consecutive game against a ranked Big 10 conference opponent.

The Purdue Boilermakers enter this critical conference game with losses to Richmond, Minnesota and West Virginia. Purdue has also struggled with their shooting from the field and although they are a better shooting team than Michigan State they are only shooting 45 percent which ranks 100th in the NCAA.

The leading scorers for Purdue are senior forward JuJuan Johnson with 20.3 points per game and E’Twaun Moore. Moore is averaging 17.7 points per game and the senior guard is strong on the boards, averaging six rebounds per game. Johnson leads the team in rebounds with 8.3 boards per game. Johnson and Moore aren’t the best outside shooters but Ryne Smith picks up the slack in that department by leading the team in three point shooting with a 48 percent average.

Two senior guards lead this year’s Spartans. Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers are not the most threatening offensive players on the court but they get the job done in Izzo’s system. Lucas and Summers are averaging over 14 points per game and they are logging 30 minutes per game. Drayton Green is the team’s leading defensive player averaging nine boards per game.
