No. 3 Duke Blue Devils faces St John’s Red Storm at Madison Square Garden

The No. 3 Duke Blue Devils head into New York City to take on the St John’s Red Storm in legendary Madison Square Garden Saturday afternoon. Duke has begun a new unbeaten streak in the wake of their loss to underrated Florida State Seminoles.

St John’s is near the cellar of the Big East standings as they head into this game. Coach Steve Lavin is building a future with the St John’s program and this game against one of the best ACC teams will build some team character for St John’s.

St John’s best offensive players are Dwight Hardy, Justin Brownlee and DJ Kennedy. Hardy and Brownlee are the shooters down low averaging 14.7 and 13.4 points per game while Kennedy is the teams three point specialist. Kennedy is hitting 39 percent from behind the three point arc.

Duke’s offensive standouts are Nolan Smith, Kyle Singlar and Kyrie Irving. Smith is averaging over 20 points per game while Singlar is averaging 18.1 points per game.
Freshman Irving may be out for the season with a toe injury but doctors have said he is showing progress. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said he is proceeding with the season on the assumption he will not have Irving back. Irving was averaging 17.4 points per game.

Neither team has a big board crasher to speak of. Mason Plumlee is the rebound man on Duke and he is averaging just over eight per game. St John’s best rebounder is DJ Kennedy with just under six per game.
