Big 12 – Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have had a long and successful basketball history. Oklahoma State University is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and its basketball team has consistently performed well both in the regular season and in the NCAA Tournament. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are in the Big 12 Conference, and, even among those great teams, they have captured four Big 12 Conference Tournament Championships and three regular season Big 12 Conference Championships. The Cowboys have enjoyed considerable prosperity in the NCAA Tournament as well, reaching the tournament 23 times in their history (1945, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1965, 1983, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2009).
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have even reached the Final Four on six different occasions (1945, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1995, and 2004), even proceeding to win the NCAA Tournament Championship on two occasions, in two consecutive years (1945 and 1946). They rank tenth with three other teams in all-time Final Four appearances, and seventh in total NCAA Championships.
Several Oklahoma State Cowboys players have continued on to have successful professional careers in the National Basketball Association (NBA), including 2001 NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner Desmond Mason, twins Stephen and Joey Graham, dunk pioneer Bob Kurland, and famous NBA star John Starks, whose 1993 dunk over Michael Jordan and Horace Grant in the playoffs has since become known as “The Dunk.” The Oklahoma State Cowboys have enjoyed a very triumphant history in both the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments, and one can only expect to see more fireworks in the future.
