Big Ten – Wisconsin Badgers
The University of Wisconsin is located in Madison, Wisconsin, and is the home of the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team. They are a part of NCAA Division I basketball and are currently members of the Big Ten Conference. The Badgers home stadium is the Kohl Center which is located on Campus.
The men’s basketball team has been around since Dec. of 1898, and played their first game in 1899 against the Milwaukee alumni. The final score was 25-15, and they were coached By Dr. Elsom. They went on to win three pre-tournament era championships in 1912, 1914, and 1916. Since then they have won an NCAA National Championship in 1941 under coach, and former Badger, Bud Foster. His team consisted of Gene England, and John Kotz (who was the tournament MVP). They played Washington State for the championship and won the game 39-34. What is even more significant is that it was their first invitation to the NCAA tournament that year, and they ended up winning their conference championship as well as the national championship.
Other than the national championship, the Badgers have made it to the Final Four twice, once in 1941 and the other in 2000. They have reached the Elite Eight two times, and the Sweet Sixteen four times. Some notable players that have made it the NBA from the Badgers are Michael Finley of the San Antonio Spurs, Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets, Alando Tucker of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Marcus Landry who plays for the New York Knicks.
